Funny how when we buy souvenirs to remember a vacation, a particular destination or event it usually stops there. When I first started collecting memorabilia related to the San Antonio World’s Fair, it was a fun way to find a few items for a shelf at home and learn about downtown history. The very first item I found was “Jim Beam” decanter in the shape of the Fair’s Theme Structure – Tower of the Americas.
At time I was thinking 1 or 2 items for a shelf then move on. However, I became more interested as each item I found not only told its own story, but also contributed to the greater overall story of HemisFair ‘ 68. From there, 1 item turned in to 10 then into 100 each with a great story to tell. To date I have been fortunate to locate and acquire over 3,500 connected to the San Antonio World’s Fair.
Overtime I have enjoyed working on cataloging my finds and incorporating them on to my website to share with visitors. Be sure to visit website to step back in time and explore the collection – www.worldsfair68.info
