In November 2023 local construction firm Zachary Construction broke ground on a new 200 room hotel. The new 17 story building called “Monarch San Antonio” sits on a 2 acre site on the northwestern edge of Hemisfair’s – Civic Park. The project mirrors it’s sister 500 room hotel just across the street purpose built to accommodate visitors to HemisFair 68. Just like the Palacio Del Rio, the Monarch will be built by Zachary Construction and once open in 2026 will be managed by Zachary Hospitality. The hotel is one two buildings intended to both anchor the edge of Hemisfair, as well as bring guests/residents back into Hemisfair district.

The idea for a hotel within the boundaries of what is now known as the “Hemisfair District” was proposed early on in the design process for Civic Park. As the overall world’s fair site was a vibrant neighborhood prior to the Fair in 1968, a hotel met the desire to bring people back the site. Another advantage to including a hotel within Civic Park is the proximity to the HBG Convention Center which lines the eastern edge of the new park.
Here is some basic trivia of the new hotel:
