“Because of HemisFair, Portugal has brought to the southwestern United States artifacts and documents linking its traditions and national experience with the past of this area. Some of these artifacts are to be seen here for the first time.” (HemisFair Guidebook, 1968)
Located in front of the pavilion was a copy of the statue of San Antonio de Padua whom the city is named after titled “St. Anthony” by Leopoldo De Almeida. Today the statue is located in the riverwalk extension (created for HemisFair) near the turn in the river that leads to the Rivercenter Mall lagoon.
