Power of Preservation Foundation

Back in 2012, the Power of Preservation Foundation (POP) was created with the focus of furthering the preservation of historic structures here in San Antonio. As part of their mission, POP holds an annual gala event to raise funds and public awareness of the importance of historic preservation. To help make each year’s gala unique, the POP Prom committee selects a local building of historic significance which is no longer in use. To date POP has selected two pavilion buildings purpose bult for the San Antonio World’s Fair. The first was the Woman’s Pavilion for Prom III in 2014 and the U.S. Pavilion for Prom XII in 2024.

I was fortunate to be able to attend both the 2014 & 2024 Prom gala’s and greatly enjoyed the events. Below are images I took durring the events.

Prom 2014 - Woman's Pavilion

For 2014, the foundation selected the Woman’s Pavilion at Hemisfair as the site of Prom III.

History of the Pavilion

Here is a short video produced for the event about the pavilion from the point of view of the original director – Sherry Wagner.

Prom 2024 - U.S. Pavilion Confluence Theater

For 2024, the foundation returned to HemisFair with the selection of the U.S. Pavilion for the site of Prom XII. For the event, the organization was also able to use four of the original bird sculptures created by local Trinity University art professor – William Bristow for the pavilion’s central courtyard.
